报道中的 drought我们都熟悉是“干旱”的意思，而眼下正值伏天，在此期间出现的'旱情就是summer drought，即“伏旱”，伏旱主要发生在中国Yangtze River Valley（长江流域）及江南地区，而眼下伏旱已蔓延至西北。
伏旱带来的最主要影响就是water shortage（水资源短缺）。据报道，这次伏旱所造成的direct economic loss（直接经济损失）预计高达1.1亿元。在这次drought relief（抗旱）行动中，各地区meteorological departments（气象部门）进行了大量artificial precipitation operations（人工降雨），以缓解旱情。
